Ursula K. Le Guin in between July 16th - and 20th (when moving apartment stuff to CA).  I have had this book for years. I bought it at the Ithaca Library Book Sale.  I believe Pat recommended it.  After seeing  The Jane Austen Book Club Movie for the second time on tv (they make references to science fiction book) I started to read it.  Magic and wizards and evil all mixed together - I want to read the next one.wizard

Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows June 27th 2009.  All I can say: Awesome read!  Enjoyed every piece of it.

Phrase that caught my eye: “I don’t want to be married, just to be married. I can’t think of anything lonelier than spending the rest of my life with someone I can’t talk to, or worse, someone I can’t be silent with”

This was a book that I just enjoyed from beginning to end. Just read it! That is all I want to say.

Four Gates of Speech

June 25th, 2009 mariajose No comments

Started serious yoga practice last semester with Dr. Joe Loehe. We are now in yoga II and one of the things we do before meditating is yoga off the mat.

The Four Gates of Speech seem like an excellent idea:

  • Is it truthful?
  • Is it necessary to say?
  • Is it the appropriate time?
  • Can it be said in a positive way?

Idiot’s guide to a hard-boiled egg

June 21st, 2009 virantha 1 comment

Because I so infrequently boil eggs, I’m always having to look up the boiling times for hard-boiled eggs. So I’m going to put down the perfect recipe here:

  1. Place eggs in small pot, and add enough cold water to rise about a half-inch above the eggs
  2. Turn heat on medium-high, and bring to a rolling boil uncovered
  3. Turn off heat, and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid; let stand for 13 minutes

If you then put the eggs into ice-water, this will cool the shell and cause the egg inside to contract away from the shell, making it easier to peel.  However, don’t leave it in the cold water for more than 20-30 seconds, otherwise you’ll end up with a very hard, dense, and cold egg!

34 Dead until dark

Charlaine Harris June 16th 2009 I finished reading this at about 2 am - I could not sleep so I kept reading… There is not much to say. I do like vampire stories but this one had too much of a young feel to it, and probably that is just a reflection of the passage of time. I am getting older.  There was too much sexual descriptions. I am not sure why would you not leave it to the imagination of the reader.  Probably if I was 20 years younger I would have said, okay - but now not so sure. 41n1icfjf5l_sl500_
